keep me out of politics.

I was flipping through Cohen’s The Energy of Slaves. His book of anti-poems, and I came across one of my favourite poem’s of his.

I can’t help but wonder the obvious: how different is the meaning of this poem when it comes out of his mouth then when it comes out of my mouth?

I  wore a media of the Virgin
round my throat
I was always a slave
Play with me forever
Mistress of the World
Keep me hard
Keep me in the kitchen
Keep me out of politics
